I graduated last year and I'm in my mid 30s. I couldn't handle pulling weeds anymore and being outside all the time. Now I'm working at the best VFX studio in Turkey, doing what I've always wanted to do ever since I was a little kid.

No, it's never too late.

Quote from Nadeo4441 :BTW a volcano erupted a while ago in iceland. Not saying its related but quite interesting.

Actually, there was a small earthquake here in Turkey a day or two before the 'rapture'. I didn't think to link the two at the time.

Just a quick skim on Camping.

"from the Bible in John 21:1-14 the disciples are about 200 cubits out from the shore on the Sea of Galilee. Harold Camping has taken that figure of 200 cubits and decided that it actually means 2000 years between the first and second coming of Christ.[2] Not only has Harold Camping inserted his own meaning into a minor detail in the Bible, he has changed the number from 200 to 2000 and the units from cubits[3] to years. With "reasoning" like this it is amazing that anyone has taken Harold Camping seriously. To learn more about Harold Camping's teachings here are some informative links, the Institute for Biblical & Scientific Studies and the ApologeticsIndex."

Quote from flymike91 :why does the government ban websites? I thought turkey was a normal place.

Not so long ago, the Turkish gov blocked access to youtube due to comments in videos criticising Ataturk (I think the main criticism was that Ataturk was 'gay'). The easiest way to deal with that was to just cut the tubes to youtube, although this was a far from reasonable response. The governments heavy hand in cases like this has made people really wary that any kind of filtering system would most likely be abused by the government in the future for whatever reasons.

Quote from ZORER :People protesting the upcoming ridiculous restrictions.

I was there in Taksim today (we live just off Istiklal Caddesi). We originally were planning to join in the parade but when it actually came past we realised just how many people had showed up for this demonstration. It was huge. So we thought we'd just go home instead. Job done. Message sent.

Racer X- I think you'd have a slightly better experience on this forum if you didn't presage your every contribution here with a claim that nobody else gets you because they are sheep. This seems to be your overriding theme and contribution... to be in touch with information and opinions that others are just too lazy, too ignorant or too afraid to be in touch with. I think it's possible you spend too much time worrying about what others believe and maybe not enough time reflecting on your own beliefs, information sources, chains of reasoning, strength of evidence, possibility of manipulation by media, or otherwise. Practicing what you preach may be good advice.

I've had an idea for awhile to create an electrified kanun band. Kanun is a bit like a lay down harp or a hammer dulcimer without the hammers (you pluck the strings). It's one of the principle instruments used in much Turkish music.

http://imageshack.us/photo/my- ... tonekanunontheco.jpg/sr=1

Anyway, the idea was to create a 'punk' type of kanun music. With 24 tones per octave and 4 or 5 kanun players, I felt you could create some really interesting clustered chords and melodic patterns. The trouble is, Kanun's are usually so expensive that I'll probably never even get to own one, let alone start a kanun band.

"THE United States will investigate how Osama bin Laden managed to live undetected just a few blocks from Pakistan's top military academy

Heh.. reminds me of kids around my area who grew pot in the garden of the local police station years ago.

I'm pretty sure I saw a photo in our national paper- it looked just like Osama- but older. I thought it was his obituary photo. It certainly wasn't the one that was posted here a page or two back.

edit- I think this is the photo.

http://s3.amazonaws.com/bt_ass ... Aged_20092.jpg?1304311768

He looked much more 'dead' in the paper (very grey looking).

edit 2- the photo looks very doctored, the beard looks mostly drawn on. Probably an identikit job?

I noted a couple of things about this which DWB has already gone over. Personally, I really didn't like the way that this killing translated into a tired speech about America being the greatest nation on earth, etc. That's probably a good way to inflame your enemies. And while I do appreciate the need for 'closure', this isn't exactly a celebration. Cheering the death of anyone, even someone like Bin Laden- is kinda repulsive. A 'good riddance' is about all anyone should muster in an event like this.

PS (conspiracy theory no.86). Do you think they took Osama's DNA in order to clone him? That would be like, the greatest come back evah...
